Marker along U.S. 19 honoring Genevieve Wyatt Payne, founder of the state roadside parks system.

Ironically, Payne's marker stands alone in what was once a roadside park. Such parks eased travel and were supported by the West Virginia department of highways into the 1970s when they were adopted by local civic organizations that soon abandon them.

This area no longer belongs to the State Of WV. This is my property and I DO NOT WANT Mr. Mullins, Mr. Meadows, Mr. Furrow and Casey mowing or doing any maintainance work on my property.
